Euro 2008 sem finals - Germany v Turkey

By fraser drew | June 25th, 2008

A large tract of north London - probably epicentred around Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and circling around Dalston and Stoke Newington which will be drawing a deep breath of hope tonight that Turkey could beat Germany. And quite a few Englishmen will be willing them on too. So too the large ex-patriate Turkish population in Germany makes this almost like a club match. The Turkish fans are some of the most dedicated and long suffering in Europe and there will be a collective invocations of every eastern amulet of luck and prayer that, like their long standing rivals in all things the Greeks, they could pull off the victory that only they believed in. Their football has been neat and sharp and when needed the goals have conjured themselves at the very death, twice in stoppage time. The longer the game goes on without a goal, the more that self belief will grow, the more the Germans will fear. The statistics say the Germans will have matters settled before half time. But the Czech Republic thought that. Croatia thought that.

Germany are 11/50 to win, 9/20 in normal time, 9/1 in extra time and 13/1 on penalties. Another Turkish comeback with the Germans leading at Half Time but the Turks winning in 90 minutes plus injury time is 29/1. The first goal to be scored by a penalty is 9/1.
