Euro 2008 semi finals - Spain v Russia

By fraser drew | June 25th, 2008

Spain v Russia will be a battle of styles and perhaps energy. The flamboyant free flowing Russians have won through with the high octane, lung bursting fast football reminiscent of the many great Dutch teams and also the South Korean team that Guss Hiddinck took to the world cup semi finals. This though is a better team and in Andrei Arshavin potentially have the player of the tournament. He has been the difference since the opening game when Spain won 4-1.

Spain have a heavy weight of expectation to get this far and predicting their mood on the night is a long shot. They are capable of finding a way through the Russian defence and Fernando Torres and David Villa are capable of scoring the goals. The betting is intrguing:

Russia are 12/5 to win in 90 minutes, 9/1 to win in extra time and 10/1 on penalties. 3-0 is 39/1. Spain to be winning at Half Time and Full time is only 5/2. Villa and Torres are both 5/1 to score the first goal. Roman Pavlyuchenko is 7/1 to score the last goal.
