Tonight’s Euro 2008 preview

By Arthur King | June 9th, 2008

Tonight sees the flair players in action in Euro 2008. After last night’s dour dark European football the masters and the maestros take the stage. If a winner has to come out of this group then Spain lies in wait. Is there are a team here that can provide the virtuoso brilliance to out gun Portugal? Or has the subtlety and steel to stand up to Ballack’s men? Tonight we see.

First off is the fancied French against the unfashionable Romania. They are 17/25 to finish bottom of the group, which for the 12th ranked nation in world soccer seems somewhat emotional..or maybe there just no bookmakers in Romania. But France have something special about them but they need to kick start from the off if their expectations are not be blown apart. In this group a draw is not such a bad result for either side and if it may be missing the Spanish in the quarter finals is the smart move.

Later we have a defining moment of the tournament. Holland have been written off as great players who always seem to become introverted at tournaments and incapable of reaching their undoubted potential. Maybe playing World Champions Italy is the best pick-me-up for them. The Italians are notoriously slow starters, but uinlike the Dutch many are home grown and still play in Serie A so are less familiar faces.
