Uefa looks to expand to 24 countries
It seems the bright boys at Uefa have realized that European could be about to split in half with the explosion of countries and talent emerging from the former Soviet bloc and a la Gordon Brown have set up a committee to see if the 2016 competition should not be expanded to 24 countries. If you take the third placed countries in this year’s qualifying that would add into the mix Serbia, Scotland, Norway, Republic of Ireland, England, Northern Ireland and Bulgaria. Plus the next best side in qualifying, say, Denmark or Ukraine. So good for the home nations, albeit by then the standards in eastern football will probably have risen to the point that only England might make the grade, if they are lucky.
